Dig in the Dirt!

After learning a little about the Letter D inside, we moved outside to do an activity that was probably the FAVORITE activity of the day. Such simple things, make such a wonderful learning experience!

First they found and counted all the "d's" on the sign.

Then outside they were greeted with this...
We collected items from around the house that started with the letter D and we hid them in the dirt.
They began to dig...and dig...
The first treasure they found was sooooo exciting!
And it just got better and better after that!

and so many more!

Digging in the dirt was so much fun in itself. The treasures and learning what started with D was a bonus.

Then they played IN the bucket together for awhile.

We want to do this activity again, but maybe incorporate other sensory items like coffee grounds, rice, pasta noodles, oatmeal, beans, etc. The possibilities are endless!!
